One of the questions we get most is “When is it good to visit Milan?” so here is the list of the very best things going on. Remember to check out our calendar for the exact dates, as they can vary a bit from year to year.
Milano Design Week/Fuorisalone – one week in spring, usually in April, in 2023 it is April 17th-23rd. A week with very lively cosmopolitan atmosphere and cocktail parties, where Milan is turned upside-doown in occasion of the Salone del Mobile furniture fair, In the ciyt you get the up-and-coming designers’ bid on what the future will look like.In the same period as Milano Design Week we also have Milano Art Week and Miart going on., it is an incredible month for contemporary and modern art and design..
Piano City – 3 days during the penultimate weekend of May. There is piano music everywhere with lots of fantastic free concerts in the city’s parks, squares and several of Milan’s beautiful courtyards. The concerts go on 24 hours a day and the city teems with life and people.
Scala Filarmonici plays a free concerts on Piazza Duomo – the second Sunday of June with a speciel guest perfomance – this is a speciel and magical evening where thousands og Milanese of all ages fill up Piazza Duomo for a very speciel night.
Estate Sforzesca – from the beginning of June to the end of August there is entertainment almost every night in the central courtyard of Castello Sforzesco of theater, dance or music, a wonderful way to spend the summer evenings with the locals. Bear in mind that July and August are the hottest months in Milan and when we say hot we means sweltering; temperatures up to 35 degrees Celsius and they don’t go down much at night
TRI.P. at Triennale di Milano – an experrimental music festival in June/July with some of contemporary music’s most exciting names.
MITO September Music – a festival which every year focuses on a theme and offers performances in both Milan and Turin for 20 days in the beginning of September.
JazzMi – Milano jazz festival the first two weeks of November november. Some of the world’s finest jazz musicians come to Milan to play..
Artigiani in Fiera – Enormous Christmas market at Milan’s fair during the first week of December, actually the atmosphere in Milan during the month of December is wonderful with lots of ice skating rinks and Christmas markets. Read more about them hereand here.
Opening Night at La Scala theater– the new season at Teatro della Scala starts with an opera on December 7th remember that if you want to experience this very speciel night, you have to book your tickets a long time in advance. You canfind the links in our events calendar.

Top 10 tidspunkter at besøge Milano på
Et af de spørgsmål vi får allermest er “Hvornår er det bedst at besøge Milano?” så her er listen over de allerbedste tidspunkter at komme hertil. For alle begivenhederne skal du huske at tjekke i vores kalender for den præcise dato, da det varierer lidt fra år til år.
Milano Design Week/Fuorisalone – en uge i foråret, normalt i april, i 2023 er det d. 17.-23. april. Piano City – 3 dage i den næstsidste weekend i maj. Der er klavermusik overalt med masser af fantastiske gratis koncerter i parker, på pladser og flere af Milanos smukke historiske gårdhaver. Koncerterne finder sted hele døgnet rundt og byen er fuld af liv og mennesker.

Husk dog at juli og august er de varmeste måneder i Milano, og når vi siger varmt, så mener vi meget varmt; med temperaturer op til 35 grader og de falder ikke meget om natten.
TRI.P. på Triennale di Milano – en eksperimenterende musikfestival i juni/juli med nogle af musikkens mest spændende aktuelle navne.
MITO September Musik – en festival, der hvert år fokuserer på et tema og tilbyder forestillinger i Milano og Torino i 20 dage i starten af september.
JazzMi – Milano jazzfestival de første 2 uger af november. Nogle af verdens bedste jazzmusikere kommer til Milano.

In December Milan is rich on Christmas markets and the grand Artisan Fair and if you want to get some different Christmas presents you should definitely visit them. December 7th and 8th are religious holidays in Milan but all shops are open.
Fiera del Re Panettone / The King Panettone Fair
November 26th-27th Milan’s traditional Christmas Cake is celebrated during this weekend in 2 places: MIND – Milano Innovation District, 171, Via Cristina Belgioioso (find on map) this the old EXPO area and it can be reached withh the Metro (red line) you have to get off at Rho Fiera. The second event is hosted at the Museo Nazionale della Scienza e della Tecnologia Leonardo da Vinci, 21, Via San Vittore (find on map) where you can taste and evaluate the very best Panettones from all of Italy.
Artigiano in Fiera – Artisanal Fair
December 3rd-11th from 10 am-10 pm we have the huge Fair for artisans – also get your free mandatory pass at this link – from all over Italy and the world, it is held at the Fair in Rho (find on map). You can get beautiful handmade Christmas gifts and taste culinary specialties from Italy and the rest of the world. In order to get a free ticket you must register on their website here, where you need to click on “Registrati” and write your email address and a password, you then get access and can order one free ticket on your chosen day.
Fiera degli Obej Obej
December 5th-8th 8.30 am.-9 pm in Piazza Castello (find on map) there is the traditional market Fiera degli Obej Obej which dates all he way back to 1288 and is always held on the days around December 7th where the Milanese celebrate their patron saint Sant’Ambrogio – the day before the national holiday for the Immaculate Conception. The atmosphere is wonderful and there are lots of local specialties to taste like vin brulè (mulled wine) and chestnuts.The name Obej Obej originates according to tradition from the exclamations of the Milanese children “Obej, Obej” (dialect for oh belli,oh belli which means “How pretty!”) when they saw the gifts Pope Pio IV’s emissary brought to the city of Milan in 1510.
Il Villaggio delle Meraviglie
November 19th-January 8th 10 am-9 pm “Il villaggio delle meraviglie” in the Giardini Pubblici Indro Montanelli (find on map) for the youngest, there are rides, meetings with Santa (starting December 6th) and an Ice skating rink, where you can rent skates. There is an admissions fee, buy your tickets here.
Christmas market in Piazza Duomo
December 1st-January 6th Christmas market on Piazza Duomo (find on map) with crafts and gastronomic specialties from all over Italy. The market is open every day from 11 am.-8 pm.
Milan’s Christmas tree
December 6th-January 6th the traditional Milanese Christmas tree can be admired in Piazza Duomo (find on map) The lighting ceremony is on December 6tth 5 pm.
Free visit to Milan’s municipal Palace and paintings
December 2nd-January 16th 9.30 am-8 pm (last admission is at 7.30 pm) there is a free exhibit of Sandro Botticelli’s painting “Madonna col Bambino” at Palazzo Marino on Piazza della Scala (find on map)
Christmas at Bagni Misteriosi
December 7th-January 8th there will be a floating skating rink at the Swimming pool Bagni Misteriosi at 18, Via Carlo Botta (find on map). On week days it will be open 4.30-9.30 pm (closed on Tuesdays) and at weekends and on holidays 10.30 am-9.30 pm. Admission is €3.50 and you can rent both skates and helmets at €10 an hour

Den 5.-8. december kl. 8.30-21 på Piazza Castello (find på kort). er der det traditionelle milanesiske julemarked Fiera degli Obej Obej hvis oprindelse kan spores helt tilbage til 1288 og bliver altid holdt i dagene omkring d. 7. december, hvor milaneserne fejrer deres skytshelgen Sant’Ambrogio – dagen før den store nationale helligdag for Jomfru Marias ubesmittede undfangelse. Atmosfæren er fantastisk og der er masser af lokale specialiteter at smage på såsom vin brulè (gløgg) og kastanjer. Navnet Obej Obej stammer ifølge traditionen fra de milanesiske børns udbrud “Obej, Obej” (dialekt for oh belli,oh belli som betyder “hvor fine!”) da de så Pave Pio d. 4.’s udsendings gaver til byen Milano i 1510.
